Getting to Providenciales Providenciales International Airport (code: PLS) serves the Turks and Caicos, and is just a 15 minute drive from the villa. Many major air carriers – including Air Canada, American, Continental, Delta, Jet Blue, United, USAirways, and WestJet – provide service from the US and Canada, with several non-stop flights each day from major cities and ample connecting service to other cities. Service from Europe is usually via the US, but in late 2012, some European carriers are expected to begin direct service to Providenciales. US visitors to the Turks and Caicos Islands are required to have a valid passport and a return ticket in order to enter the country. Entry requirements for other countries vary; please consult your air carrier or national government for details.
Transportation ~ We recommend a rental car for getting around Provo. Several major rental car firms have offices on the island, and Budget and Avis have counters directly at the airport. Hertz also provides car rentals on the island, as do a number of local outfits. Please click here for a list of car and jeep rental companies.
Weather ~ Daytime temperatures are typically in the 70’s and 80’s, with the summer months being a bit hotter. Trade winds and a low humidity help keep the climate comfortable all year round, and 40 inches or less of rain each year assures plenty of sunny days. Water temperatures range from the 70’s in the winter to the 80’s in the summer, perfect for swimming year-round. Evening temperatures are in the 60’s and 70’s, and a light jacket or sweater is recommended at night for the winter months. For current Turks and Caicos weather conditions, please the Weather Underground logo.
Tipping ~ There are no rules about tipping but it is customary to add 15% for good service. Some restaurants will add a 10% service charge to your bill, not to be confused with the 11% restaurant tax, so please check before automatically adding your tip.
Restaurants ~ Our favorite restaurant, Las Brisas, is just a 2 minute walk from the villa. Situated waterfront on Chalk Sound, there are gorgeous and surreal turquoise water views from every table. Over 50 other restaurants, ranging from casual to gourmet, and serving just about every kind of cuisine from around the world, are a short 15-minute drive away. Time, Currency, Electricity ~ The time Zone is Eastern Time, and daylight savings time is observed as it is in the US. The local currency is the US Dollar. Electricity is 110V/120V and 60Hz, the same as found in the US and Canada.
